Our priorities

Canada’s ability to discover, adapt and prosper depends on a research system that supports ideas at every stage — from curiosity-driven inquiry to application and impact. CCR’s priorities focus on strengthening the foundations of that system.

Fund the research that makes progress possible

Fundamental, investigator-led research is the foundation of Canada’s research ecosystem. It builds knowledge, trains highly qualified people, and creates the breakthroughs that later become new technologies, treatments, public policies and industries. Canada needs reliable federal support for research in every discipline, guided by peer review and protected from political interference.

Build and retain Canada's research talent

A research system is only as strong as the people who make it work. Canada must support the full talent continuum: students, post-doctoral scholars, early-career researchers, established investigators, research staff and technicians. This means enough grants of adequate size to support ambitious work, fair opportunities to lead research, and stable careers that allow people to remain in Canada.

Make research and policy work together

Research helps governments understand complex challenges and develop effective solutions. In turn, decisions across government — including immigration, student policy, infrastructure, labour markets, official languages and economic development — shape the conditions in which research, graduate students and research teams can thrive.

CCR works to advance coherent policies that strengthen Canada’s research ecosystem, while championing science and research as essential foundations for public decision-making.
